The Macaulay Cup is a national cup competition, competed for by the eight highest placed shinty sides from the prior season from the north and south areas. The cup is not run by the Camanachd Association, instead being organised by the Macaulay Association – one of the CA’s affiliated organisations. It is one of four trophies that form the Grand Slam.

The maiden competition was held in 1947, with Flora Macaulay, editor of The Oban Times, presenting Newtonmore with the first of their 11 titles. The final is typically held in Oban in August every year, with the game being televised live by the BBC.

The current holders are Oban Camanachd, becoming champions for the 7th time in 2026. Kingussie have historically dominated the competition, lifting their 28th title in 2025 after seeing off Oban Camanachd 1-0. Kyles Athletic equalled Newtonmore’s second place in the all time charts in 2017 after an incredible 7-4 defeat of the blue and whites. Oban Celtic have been champions on 5 occasions.
