Mowi Game of the Week - Lochaber vs GMA

Leah Maxtone Interview

This Saturday, the Mowi Shinty Season throws up for 2025! Mowi Valerie Fraser Camanachd Cup holders Lochaber welcome Glasgow Mid Argyll to Spean Bridge on Sunday. Ahead of the big fixture we caught up with Leah Maxtone of Lochaber.

After such a strong personal season, including your decisive goal in the Valerie Fraser final, how are you feeling heading into the new campaign?

I’m feeling really excited for the upcoming season,  and I’m just eager to get back playing!

Lochaber finished third last year, just two points ahead of Glasgow Mid Argyll—how important is it to start with a statement win against them, especially given last season’s results?

It’s really important to start the season on a strong win, but we know we are going to have to work hard together as a team to do this.

You netted 20 league goals last season—do you have a personal target in mind for this year, or is it all about the team’s success?

It’s all about the team working together to win games and hopefully win some silverware this season for the club.

With teams strengthening over the winter, who do you see as Lochaber’s biggest challengers for silverware this season?

With the new Mowi Premier League format, I think it’s all to play for this season and every single game is going to be tough.

What do you think will be the key factors in getting the better of Glasgow Mid Argyll this time around?

We know what we need to do as a team and as individuals to beat GMA, but we know we need to be strong in every area of the pitch.
