The inaugural Mowi WCA Premier League saw a straight shot between Badenoch and Lochaber, with the league coming down to a play-off as neither team could be separated after 12 regular season games. This was the 4th meeting between the sides, with Lochaber having won both league matches, including the final game of the season to force the playoff, whilst it was Badenoch who triumphed in the Mowi Valerie Fraser Cup Final, highlighting the competitiveness between the sides.

The playoff was originally scheduled to be held on Sunday 6th October, however Storm Amy had other ideas, with the match pushed back a week to the 12th of October. The weather was no barrier this time, as a sun kissed Braeview Park hosted the contest, with Badenoch looking to lift their 5th successive league title.

Jamie MacPherson got the contest underway, and within 5 minutes it was Lochaber who struck first, however Leah Maxtone’s strike was ruled out after the ball was judged to have gone out of play in the build up.

On 40 minutes the action was once again in the Badenoch box, as Lochaber were awarded a penalty when Missy Howie was fouled in the box. It was Mairi Duncan who stepped up to take, but the shot was well saved by Elizabeth MacGregor, with the resulting corner being the last piece of action before the half time whistle. 

On 53 minutes Brooke Falconer dispossessed her Badenoch counterpart and found Leah Maxtone in space, whose pass was struck into the net by a delighted Missy Howie to make it 1-0. It was Missy Howie who again struck from a similar range late on, as Natalie MacDonald flashed a ball across the box which was finished into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.

Badenoch were unable to muster up a reply, and as the referee called a hold to proceedings it was ecstasy for those in red and white, as the WCA league title was heading to Spean for the first time in history. Katherine Dibble from Mowi was on hand to present the league trophy, which was held aloft by captain Amy Disher infront of the Lochaber faithful to commence the celebrations.
