The Camanachd Association marked a historic moment with the opening of Shinty’s Story – Sgeul na Camanachd, a permanent exhibition celebrating Scotland’s community sport. The exhibition was formally opened at Bught Park, Inverness, by First Minister John Swinney alongside Camanachd Association President Burton Morrison.

Developed with exhibition designers Lateral North, the bilingual space explored four defining themes — Origins, Community, Competition and Future. Rare artefacts, immersive digital content and personal accounts traced shinty’s ancient roots and its living presence across Scotland and beyond.

The project was supported by £544,000 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, with representatives attending the opening.

Speaking at the launch, the First Minister described the exhibition as a powerful telling of shinty’s story and its enduring place in Highland and Scottish life. Burton Morrison reflected on the exhibition as a proud milestone, honouring generations who carried the caman while inspiring those still to come.
