Mowi Game of the Week - Skye vs Glenurquhart
Hazel Hunter Interview
This weekend sees Skye host Glenurquhart in the WCA Mowi Premier League, with Skye occupying 3rd place whilst Glenurquhart’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Badenoch has them sitting 6th. Ahead of the game we spoke to Glenurquhart player and Scotland international Hazel Hunter.
t’s a trip to Portree to face Skye this weekend, how are you feeling ahead of the game?
We are feeling positive, our fitness levels are up and we’ve been working hard at training. We have narrowly missed out on a couple of wins this season so we’re ready to dig deep and hopefully come away with a win.
What do you see as Skye’s strengths, and how will you look to nullify these?
Skye are young, fit and are able to score from anywhere on the pitch with their long hitting. Our defence have come on leaps and bounds since last season. Sticking tight to our players and not giving away any chances will be key.
It was a narrow 1-0 defeat away to a strong Badenoch side last time out, what lessons and positives can the team take from that game?
Losing to Badenoch in stoppage time was a tough one to take, after what can only be described as a heroic effort from our defence and keeper! The lessons learned from that game maybe that we have a better depth and flexibility within ourselves as players than we might have initially thought.
With 7 goals so far this year, what are your aims this season?
We finished low in the table last season so we’re aiming to finish middle comfortably. We’ve got some experience players and gained some youth players who have made the jump from North 2 who bring there fitness and stamina so they’ll definitely contribute to making this goal happen.
Away from the pitch, Glen have been fundraising for a sports & wellbeing centre adjacent to Blairbeg – how important will this be for the club’s future and the wider community?
The local community and wider have come together wonderfully to raise the funds we need. We’ve still some way to go but if we all show the grit and determination we’ve shown so far there’s no reason why we can as a make this happen. The facility’s will benefit our local football and rugby teams as well as all travelling teams, so it really will benefit everyone. With the village growing the facilities we have need to grow too.
