Mowi Game of the Week - Skye vs Glenurquhart

Abby MacLean Interview

This weekend sees Skye host Glenurquhart in the WCA Mowi Premier League, with Skye occupying 3rd place whilst Glenurquhart’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Badenoch has them sitting 6th. Ahead of the game we spoke to Skye’s Abby MacLean.

Skye host Glenurquhart this weekend, how are you looking forward to the game?

Really looking forward to the game this weekend, Glenuqhuart are a strong team so we’ll be expecting a tough game, I wouldn’t say any wins are guaranteed in the league this year so we’ll have to put in a solid performance to hopefully come away with the 2 points

The team’s good form continued with a 9-1 win last weekend, what has been working well?

We’re quite lucky that we’ve had a very consistent team the last 4-5 years in terms of players so we all know each others strengths pretty well on the pitch so I’d say utilising that has been key to some good results so far this season, we’ve all been training hard and trying to keep our fitness up so that always makes a good difference too!

You hit your second successive hat-trick in that game, how do you feel your game is getting on?

I’m hoping to be getting back into the swing of things after some time away but I’m feeling good with how I’ve been playing so far this season, like I just said working on fitness outwith training has been beneficial so far I’d like to think and my job on the pitch is made alot easier when I have the kind of players I do around me, so hoping for a few more goals this weekend!

Looking forward to next week it’s a tough test as you’ll host Badenoch, what will Skye need to do to get a result from this game?

It’s always a good game of shinty against Badenoch and I doubt this game will be any exception, we’ll all have to put in a big shift all over the park, have confidence in ourselves and make our chances count when we get them! Badenoch are a fast and physical team so starting strong from throw up is key!
