“A Matter of Opinion”

39 people attended the meeting and apologies were intimated from Jimmy Groat, Harry Black, George & Shona MacPherson, Fraser Ross, Jim Timson and Ivor Campbell.

A welcome was given to all visitors on entering the hall by Donnie MacLennan (Clechan). In particular it was great to give an especially warm welcome to Alastair Mearns, the son of legendeary player Alastair Mearns Snr. Who played for Beauly in the team that was so successful in the fifties. Alastair Snr. Left Beauly for Canada in 1956 where Alastair Jnr. Was born – he now lives in Rogart in Sutherland. He took along the presentation caman which as given to his father by the Beauly Club when he left for Canada.

Unfortunately, a large number of our photographs are still away for digitising. But a small number of photos and memorabilia were on display and enjoyed by all.

The “Matter of Opinion” consisted of two halves, the first being opinions on more shinty orientated content and the second half being on more light hearted topics. Opinions varied on all topics and feedback from those attending suggests the meeting was very well enjoyed by all. Our guest panel of Charlie Bannerman, John MacKenzie and Ali MacRae also indicated how much they enjoyed their participation in the event.

A vote of thanks was given to our guest panel and also to Brian Mellis and Alick Polson for help in setting up the hall, the ladies who provided the excellent tea, coffee and home baking: Tina MacLennan, Mina MacKay, Doreen Polson & Heather Simpson, and all who managed to attend on the day.
