Là Camanachd a’ Mhòid air faire
Bidh Là Camanachd a’ Mhòid a’ tilleadh dhan Òban air Disathairne 12mh an Dàmhair. Tha iomain aig a’ Mhòd air piseach mòr fhaicinn anns na bliadhnaichean a dh’fhalbh ’s i a-nis na thachartas mòr a tha a’ toirt a-steach gheamannan fir, boireannach agus chloinne.
Tha an tachartas seo a’ comharrachadh 55 bliadhna on a chaidh a’ chiad Chupa a’ Mhòid a chluich air Mòd Nàiseanta na h-Agaidh Mhòir ann an 1969. Sa bhliadhna sin chluich Baile Ùr an t-Slèibh an aghaidh Chinn a’ Ghiùthsaich, agus ’s e balaich an Eilein a fhuair làmh air Geall-dùbhlain na h-Agaidh Mhòir. ’S i fhathast an aon chupa air nach d’ fhuair Ceann a’ Ghiùthsaich sealbh riamh.
Gu h-annasach, tha an geama am-bliadhna a’ toirt cothrom do dhà sgioba a chaill do Cheann a’ Ghiùthsaich ann an cuairtean-deireannach am-bliadhna làmh fhaighinn air an aon duais sin.
Bidh Camanachd an Òbain a’ strì an aghaidh Lòbhat. Tha An t-Òban air an cupa a thogail ceithir tursan, agus thog Lòbhat e ann an 1972 aig Mòd Inbhir Nis. ’S e Lachie Wood an rèitire.
Thuirt Ceann-suide Lòbhait, Iain MacRisnidh. “Tha Comann CAmanachd Lòbhait a’ coimhead air adhart ti bhith a’ farpais airson Cupa a’ Mhòid am-bliadhna anns an Òban. Tha geamannan faisg eadarainn fhìn is an t-Òban an-còmhnaidh agus sinn an dùil an dearbh rud a-rithist.”
Thuirt Ceann-suidhe Camanachd an Òbain, Pàdruig Steeman, “Tha am Mòd a’ tilleadh dhan Òban sgoinneil airson a’ bhaile, chan eil àite nas fheàrr ann airson talantan nam farpaiseach uile a thaisbeanadh na na goireasan sgairteil aig ar baile.”
“Le Cupannan a’ Mhòid gan cluich aig Pàirc Mhossfield, Dachaigh na Camanachd, tha sinn an dòchas gun tadhail mòran de mhuinntir a’ Mhòid oirnn gus geam fìor chruaidh eadar dà sgioba Phremiership fhaicinn.”
“Gheibh iad fàilte chridheil aig Mossfield, is teatha, cofaidh is greim-bidhe a dh’aindeoin na sìde, ach ‘e cinnt bi fìor fheasgar beòthail de dh’iomainn ann dhan uile.”
’S e tilleadh dhachaigh a tha seo cuideachd do dh’Iomain nam bàn. Chaidh a’ chiad fharpais do bhoireannaich a chumail aig Mòd Dhùn Omhain ann an 2018, agus ’s e sgioba an Òbain Latharnaich a bhuannaich an latha sin.
On uairsin tha na Latharnaich air a dhol nan Ceiltich, ’s ged nach eil iad a’ farpais san lìog am-bliadhna, tha iad aig ceann sgioba Earra-ghàidheil le taghadh de chluicheadairean a bhios a’ riochdachadh na siorramachd air fad an aghaidh Aird nam Murchan on lìog nàiseanta. Bidh iad ag iomairt airson Geall-dùbhlain LearnGaelic a chaidh a chur suas an toiseach ann an 2019 aig Mòd Ghlaschu. Thathar an dòchas gun toir an geam seo brosnachadh do spòrs nam bàn san sgìre a-rithist.
Bidh clann-sgoile bho air feadh Earra-ghàidheil a’ farpais airson Cupa Mòd Ghlaschu aig a’ phàirc Bhlaise sa mhadainn ann am farpais sianar gach taobh.
Os cionn gach rud, bidh Ceann-feachda Camanachd a’ Mhòid 2024, Eanruig MacAonghais à Port nan Long. Bidh cromag a’ chinn-feachda ga buileachadh air le ceann-feachda an-uiridh Ùisdean MacIllinnein. Tha a’ chromag g maoineachadh le Camanachd nan Cuimhneachan (Shinty Memories Scotland).
Tha iomain aig a’ Mhòd ga ruith le Iomain Cholmcille ann am com-pàirteachas le Comann na Camanachd, as leth a’ Chomuinn Ghàidhealaich. Tha Iomain Cholmcille a’ faighinn taic bho Bhòrd na Gàidhlig.
A spectacular Mòd Shinty Saturday in prospect
The Mòd Shinty Cup finals return to Oban on Saturday 12th October. Shinty at the Royal National Mòd has seen a renaissance in recent years and is now a major event on the Saturday of the Mòd with competitions for men, women and children.
This years event marks 55 years since the very first Mòd Cup played at the Aviemore Mòd in 1969. In that year Newtonmore played Kingussie and it was The Eilan boys who were inaugural winners. The Aviemore Trophy remains the only cup Kingussie have never picked up.
By chance, this year sees the fixture give two teams who have lost to the all-conquering Kings this year to get a hold of the same trophy.
Oban Camanachd will face Lovat in a fixture which also doubles as a MOWI Premiership match. Oban have lifted the cup four times and Lovat won it in 1972 at the Inverness Mòd. Lachie Wood is referee.
Lovat President John MacRitchie says “Lovat Shinty Club are looking forward to taking part in this years’ Mòd Cup in Oban. We have always had close games against Oban and expect that this will be the same again.”
Oban Camanachd’s president Patrick Steeman welcomed Mòd goers to Oban “The Mod coming back to Oban is great for the town, there’s no better place to showcase the talents of all the competitors than in the wonderful venues the town has to offer.”
“With the Mod Cup being played at Mossfield Stadium the ‘home’ of shinty, we hope that many Mod visitors make their way along to see what should be a highly competitive match between two Premiership sides.”
“Visitors will receive a warm welcome at Mossfield, where teas, coffee and snacks will be available, we can’t guarantee the the weather, but we can guarantee an exciting afternoon of shinty which we hope everyone will enjoy.”
It’s also a sort of homecoming for thewomen’s game. The first Mòd Cup for women was played in Dunoon in 2018, and it was Oban Lorne it won it that day.
The Lorne club has become Oban Celtic, and although they withdrew from the league this year, they have led on putting together the Argyll XII which will see players from across the county face up against National Division One side Ardnamurchan for the LearnGaelic Trophy which was first presented in 2019 at the Glasgow Mòd. It is hoped this game will raise interest in the women’s code in the Oban area again.
The Mòd Ghlaschu trophy will be played for in the morning by Primary School teams at the Blaise Pitch, with six a-side teams from across the area.
Presiding over the whole event will be Henry MacInnes of Portnalong, Mòd Shinty Chieftain for 2024. He will be presented with the Mòd Shinty Chieftain ceremonial cromag, by his predecessor Hugh Dan MacLennan, which is sponsored by Shinty Memories Scotland.
Shinty at the Mòd is run by the Gaelic Shinty Project Iomain Cholmcille, in partnership with the Camanachd Assocation, on behalf of An Comunn Gàidhealach. Iomain Cholmcille receives support from Bòrd na Gàidhlig.
