Abercorn (A) & Lockhart Campus Schools victorious at the 2024 National Disability Shinty Festival – supported by Mowi
Aviemore was the venue this month, for the 27th annual Disability First Shinty Festival which saw Abercorn School from Glasgow retain their title winning League A. Lockhart Campus from North Ayrshire emerged victorious winning section B.
Over 95 children and a record 14 teams and 10 schools from Inverness (2), Kingussie, Oban, Tain, Glasgow (3) and Ayrshire (2) enjoyed coaching from qualified shinty coaches and games throughout the two-day event which culminated in a tournament.
The tournament was split into A & B leagues on a round robin format, with the teams in each section playing each other once. Both leagues were extremely competitive with some excellent play and great goals scored throughout the day.
Abercorn from Glasgow, the 2023 winners won League A, with Kingussie High School in second place. Lockhart Campus from North Ayrshire run out convincing winners of League B.
Jayne MacKay from sponsors Mowi presented the trophies to the captains of Abercorn and Lockhart schools and t-shirts and medals to all the children.
Camanachd Association National Development Manager, Ronald Ross, said: “This is one of the most rewarding events we hold annually as we are bringing together children who don’t get many opportunities to compete in shinty. The event grows in popularity each year, and it was fantastic to see a record 96 children taking part over the two days. I would like to thank all the teams, players, teachers and support staff that made the effort to take part in this year’s festival”
