ALAN CRAWFORD
GLASGOW MID ARGYLL SHINTY CLUB
Glasgow Mid Argyll Shinty Club is sad to note the passing of another member of the 1973 Camanachd Cup Winning Team.
Alan came from Stralachlan, Strachur, and that is where he developed his shinty skills. When he left Strachur to take up a post with the Blood Transfusion Service in Glasgow, he started playing with GMA, possibly influenced by his uncle Donald Crawford, previously a Glasgow Celtic Society Cup winner with GMA. Alan subsequently moved to the Fire Service until retirement.
With GMA, Alan was always a full forward and although small in stature proved to be a very good goal scorer. He is well remembered as the scorer of the decisive 4th goal in the 1973 Final and his goals tally in the 1975/76 season was a significant factor in GMA winning the Dunn League.
The photo was taken at this year’s 50th celebration of the 1973 victory. Alan is directly behind the Cup with 8 of the remaining 9 survivors of the winning team.
Alan lost his wife Elizabeth over two years ago. The sympathy of Glasgow Mid Argyll Shinty Club is extended to Douglas, Stuart, Euan, Heather and the wider family.
The funeral service is at Woodside Crematorium, Paisley at 10am on Friday 8th December.
