Mowi Game of the Week - GMA II vs Lochside Rovers

Calum MacFarlane-Barrow Interview

The Bullough Cup final takes place between Glasgow Mid Argyll II and holders Lochside Rovers this Saturday at Strachurmore Sports Centre. As GMA’s captain Aedan MacRae is unavailable due his wedding, we spoke to GMA’s vice-captain Calum MacFarlane-Barrow!

Calum, a big game as you take on Lochside Rovers in the Bullough Cup Final this Saturday, how have preparations been going?

Getting to a final is a big occasion and everyone in the club is looking forward to it. The boys are training hard and raring to go. Had a couple of tough results recently but we have played some good shinty and feeling confident we can bring this to the match on Saturday!

How much motivation does what happened a few weeks ago give you?

Obviously it was a challenging result against a tough Lochside team, but the boys don’t need any extra motivation for a final. We know we need to turn up with our A-game and I am sure that we will.

It’s been a mixed bag for GMA this season, how would it feel to still end up with some silverware regardless?

We have had a very young squad this season and this has meant being on the end of a few difficult defeats. But the boys have been improving a lot lately and we are definitely playing better in the last few weeks. It would be great to top it off by getting a cup win!

What kind of strengths do they have as a side that you will need to be aware of going into Saturday?

The Lochside teams I have played over the years are always strong and this one is no different. Their forward line is very fast and skillful and it will take a very strong performance to beat them. However, with fully fit and strong squad we know we are more than capable!
