Sunday the 14th of September saw the finals of the WJ Cameron take place at Mossfield, Oban.
Three teams travelled for the event with Inverness and Glen Urquhart travelling from the north area and Bute representing the south. The format for the day was a round robin league style played 15 minutes each way.
The first game saw Glen Urquhart and Inverness play each other. It was the Inverness side who got off to a speedy start when they took an early lead through Finlay Neilson. This momentum continued when they double their lead through a fine strike from Lyall Oparka. This took them into half time with a 2-0 lead.
The 2nd half proved to be a game of too halves and Glen came out of the gate quickly and started putting pressure on the Inverness goal and the pressure paid off when Kaleb Powers grabbed a goal back for Glen Urquhart. This momentum continued when Emily Van Loon grabbed a second goal for the Drumnadrochit side with under 5 minutes left to play. Glen Urquhart continued to push for the winner but Inverness defended well marshalled by the excellent Isla MacNeil. Mean both teams took away a point from the first game.
The 2nd game saw Bute take on Inverness. Bute came out the blocks flying playing some great attacking shinty and their dominance meant they went into the half time break with a 4 goal lead thanks to goals from Llyod Robertson, Robert Lowrie, Louie McDonald and Aarron MacFarlane. Inverness reshuffle things in the 2nd half with MacNeil going into full centre and giving the Highlanders a foothold in the game. However, Bute added 2 further goals through Regan Craig and Lowrie again. Seeing them take a 6-0 victory.
The final game saw Bute play Glen Urquhart where the Glen needed to win to win the trophy. They started well and took the lead after 6 minutes through Kaleb Powers. However, the experience of the islanders shone through and a hattrick from the clinical Lowrie, a double from Louie McDonald and Aarron MacFarlane saw Bute confirm a 6-1 win and claim the title.
The WJ Cameron trophy was won then presented to the islanders by Les Kinvig of the Macaulay Association to Bute captain Regan Craig.
