Camanachd Association and Newtonmore Camanachd Club Miss Out on Historic Shinty Medals

The Camanachd Association and Newtonmore Camanachd Club recently participated in an auction for a collection of shinty medals from the 1920s, including a coveted 1923 Sutherland Cup Medal. Despite their best efforts, the organisations were ultimately unsuccessful in securing these historic items.
The Association would encourage individuals who have medals they no longer want or can no longer care for to in the first instance contact their local shinty club.
These medals represent a significant part of shinty’s rich heritage, and their loss in the auction underscores the importance of preserving and showcasing our sport’s history. To this end, we are excited to be developing “Shinty’s Story – Sgeul na Camanachd,” an interactive, permanent shinty exhibition at Bught Park, Inverness.
This exhibition will offer visitors a unique opportunity to explore the history and evolution of shinty through various displays and interactive exhibits. However, to ensure the exhibition is as comprehensive and engaging as possible, we are calling on clubs and individuals to consider donating pre-WWII shinty medals or memorabilia.
These donations will be displayed on a rotational basis, ensuring a dynamic and ever-changing exhibition that honours the contributions and achievements of the shinty community.
If you have items you would like to donate, please contact Aarron Macleod at aarron.macleod@shinty.com. Your contributions will play a vital role in preserving shinty’s legacy and inspiring future generations of players and fans.
Stay tuned for more updates on the development of Shinty’s Story – Sgeul na Camanachd, and thank you for your continued support in celebrating and preserving our beloved sport’s history.
