The Camanachd Association is once again celebrating its heritage with the introduction of new medals for the Mowi League competitions. Drawing inspiration from the MacGilvray League medals of the 1970s, this marks the latest chapter in the Association’s efforts to honour shinty’s rich history while recognising modern excellence.
The revival of the MacGilvray League medal design comes hot on the heels of the reintroduction of the historic MacTavish Cup medals earlier in 2024.
Camanachd Association Chief Executive Ruari Davidson commented, “These medals are a testament to shinty’s enduring spirit and our commitment to preserving its cultural significance. By bringing back this iconic design, we are connecting today’s players with the greats of the past.”
The first presentation of the new Mowi League medals took place in Summer 2024, with all Mowi Leagues using the same design for season 2025. Players will no doubt be inspired by the knowledge that their achievements will be immortalised with a medal design rooted in the sport’s proud history.
The Camanachd Association’s efforts to celebrate and safeguard shinty’s heritage through initiatives like this continue to ensure the sport remains a cornerstone of Scottish culture. As the players vie for glory in the Mowi Leagues, they can now do so with the promise of carrying forward a legacy that stretches back decades, uniting past and present on the field.
