The Camanachd Association in partnership with UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) are hosting a workshop on Thursday 23rd February from 7pm – 8.30pm targeted at Players, Coaches and Club Leaders. In line with the UKAD Assurance framework and the Camanachd Associations Education Strategy the workshop is a commitment ensuring anti-doping education and updates are delivered each year.
Following the workshop, the Camanachd Association will enrol in UKAD “in competition” testing programme which will involve UKAD testers carrying out random testing during the 2023 season. The Camanachd Association will provide in due course guidance around how the testing is undertaken i.e. Cup finals, league/cup games/Internationals, and the number of tests carried out per year. The players/teams selected will be random and decided by the UKAD testers. The cost of the tests will be covered by the Camanachd Association.
By committing to random testing and player/club education programmes we are putting in place a comprehensive set of steps that will help to mitigate the risk of drug taking within shinty. There are currently a range of resources, templates and support, and the UKAD staff will be available to guide us through this process and ensure that any challenges are overcome in partnership.
