This week will mark the conclusion of the cottages.com MacTavish Cup 1st Round as Caberfeidh welcome Kinlochshiel in a rerun of the abandoned fixture from a fortnight ago. The winner will secure a date with holders Kingussie in the quarter finals on 20th April. We caught up with Caberfeidh forward and Mowi Premiership top goal scorer Craig Morrison to preview the fixture.
Craig, you take to the pitch on Saturday against Kinlochshiel in the cottages.com MacTavish Cup, how have preparations gone for the game so far?
Preparations have been the same as always, we didn’t have a game on Saturday due to weather but I think most teams were the same. Thankfully back on the grass for training so that’s a big difference from the astro.
What do you make of Kinlochshiel as a side – where can they get at you?
For me Kinlochshiel are the closest team to Kingussie, really well balanced with a mix of young boys coming through and boys that have played there for years with loads of experience. Anyone of their forward line can punish you if they get half a chance and with Finlay, Connor and Duncan at the back it’ll always be a challenge to score goals.
You of course played in the 2022 cottages.com MacTavish Cup Final, how desperate are the team to make another final?
Everyone of the players would love to get to another final, hopefully if we stick together we can achieve that.
It was an incredible 3-3 draw with Kinlochshiel at Castle Leod last season, with 2 goals from yourself that day, are you expecting another thrilling encounter this weekend?
If both teams are at it on the day I don’t see why it can’t be another thrilling encounter. Going to be another really tough game for us.
The quarter-final draw took place on Friday and paired you up with holders Kingussie, some would say that’s not much of a prize for winning on Saturday, what do you make of the draw?
We haven’t really had much luck in cup draws the last couple years but we’ll need to worry about Kinlochshiel first this weekend
