Mowi Game of the Week - Oban Camanachd vs Kyles Athletic

Daniel MacVicar Interview

This Saturday will see the two 2024 Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Finalists square off, as Kyles Athletic welcome Oban Camanachd to Tighnabruich on Saturday. Ahead of the big fixture we caught up with the Red and Black’s captain, Daniel MacVicar.

You kicked off the season with a hard fought point at home to Kinlochshiel – will you be looking to build on this performance?

It’s not the start we wanted, but we played very well in large spells and will look to build on that starting this Saturday.

It’s an all south tie this weekend as you travel to Tighnabruaich – are you expecting a close game?

It’s always a close game against Kyles whether home or away, so we are expecting no different. They will be looking to bounce back from last weeks result so we need to be on our A game.

How did it feel to be named Oban captain for the 2025 season?

It’s an honour to be named Oban Camanachd captain this season. It feels like the right time for me and I will try my utmost to ensure it’s a successful season for the club.

On a personal level, it was a successful season, as you were named in last seasons Mowi Premiership Captain’s TOTS and played for Scotland – what are your aims for this season?

On a personal level my main aim is to score more goals on a more consistent basis. I know I still have plenty areas of my game to improve on in order to help the team reach our goals.
