You welcome Fort William in the Camanachd Cup this weekend – how are you feeling ahead of the game?

I’m feeling good. Looking forward to the game. It’s an opportunity for us to get our season back on track, both in the cup and a win on Saturday would give us a boost for our final few league games as well.

You’re yet to beat Fort this season, what do you think has to be done differently to change this?

We pushed them hard in both games this season. We started the better team on both occasions but we didn’t make the most of our chances. That invited them back into the game and then they punished us for it. On Saturday we need to make the most of our chances in front of goal and our whole team needs to put in a good performance for the full 90 minutes.

It’s been a tricky run of games since the 2nd round of the Camanachd Cup, are you confident in a change in fortunes?

Yes I am. It has been a hard few weeks. Playing the best 4 teams in the country since the last round. It’s also come at a time when we’ve had a real injury crisis, losing 6 regular starting players. The young lads that have come in are improving every week and with the older boys coming back I’m hoping our results will pick up, hopefully starting this Saturday.

Kinlochshiel of course were Camanachd Cup Champions in 2021 – run me through how you felt on that day

It was a day I’ll never forget. You could feel for weeks before how big an occasion it was for not just us players but the whole community. It meant a lot to everyone. I had a bit of nerves before the game but that went away once I got out onto the pitch. It was a close game that passed by quickly but when Keith completed his hattrick I knew we had it. Then we could wash down the feelings of relief and joy with a few beers.

You were featured in a recent Aston Martin advert with a Caman in hand – how did this come about?

I play the bagpipes for The Glen Affric Estate. They have had lots of adverts and interesting guests over the years. One time when I was up there playing they were filming an Aston Martin advert. The estate had put on a mini Highland Games for the crew and when the shinty sticks came out the game keeper being a Strathglass man got me involved.
