Glenurquhart Shinty Club would like to convey their condolences to the family, friends and former team-mates of the late Donald Paul Mackintosh who passed away on Saturday 13th June 2026 after a trying illness. Donald Paul or “D P” as he was universally known played for the Glen from the mid 60s till hanging up his caman at the age of 38. During that period, he was a forceful and powerful full centre who could dominate the midfield against most players. He captained the Glen in the 1970s, playing in the MacAulay Cup finals of 1972 and 1977 and in the MacTavish Cup final of 1977. There were other, as he would call them “minor successes” in the Dewar Shield at Lochcarron and the Mod Cup at Brora but it was his misfortune to be playing in an era when the great Newtonmore side of the 1970s was supreme in the North and Kyles Athletic had a grip in the south.

After he stepped down from playing DP served at different times as Glenurquhart manager of both the first and second teams – and was awarded honorary membership of the club because of his years of service. He was a faithful attender at home matches of all types and was in his seat at the stand to watch the Glen play old rivals Strathglass as recently as the 30^th of May. His presence will be sorely missed at Blairbeg
