The Donella Crawford 6s’ provides a platform for high school girls to come together and take part in shinty, while remembering Donella, who was a huge advocate of the girl’s game. Ardnamurchan High School, once again, offered to host the event which saw 11 teams (close to 100 players) sign up.

Teams played each other once in an 11 team round robin in short sharp games across 3 grass pitches. There were a number of very close games and the level of shinty was impressive across all teams.

In the group stage first placed Inverness Royal Academy played 4^th place Glasgow Gaelic School in the first semi final. GlenUrquhart and Kingussie played each other in the second semi final finishing second and third respectively.

Two competitive semi finals saw Inverness Royal Academy maintain their unbeaten record overcoming a young Glasgow side,  running out 2-0 winners after 10 minutes. Meanwhile it was a Lexie Farquhar backhand strike that gave Kingussie the victory in the other semi final over an impressive GlenUrquhart side.

The final showcased some fantastic shinty played by both teams. The tackling and hitting was particularly impressive given the poor weather conditions that had plagued the event all day. Both goal keepers had a number of saves to make in regulation time and the game was still deadlocked as the final whistle went. Five additional minutes were to be played in extra time and still the game ebbed and flowed from end to end. It took something special to break the deadlock and that came a minute from the end from Inverness’s Isla McNeil who sent a ferocious back hand strike from a wide position high into the back of the net, leaving the Kingussie keeper with no chance and sealing victory for her school.

Simon Patterson, Acting Head Teacher for Ardnamurchan High School was on hand to conduct the presentations, giving the medals and the trophy to the winning Inverness Royal Academy Captain, Isla McNeil.  Congratulations to everyone at Inverness Royal Academy for their victory.

The Camanachd Association would like to thank Ollie, Ruaridh, Freddie and Rosalyn for taking the time out their day to referee the event, to Alan Gray for being on hand for any First Aid throughout the day and to Colm O’Rua and Ardnamurchan High School for hosting yet again. Already looking forward to next year.
