Shinty is, at its heart, a community sport and the spirit of collectivism was demonstrated on Monday evening by none other than Glenurquhart’s John Barr.

The Association received an email early on Tuesday Morning from a Timothy Yangsong, praising the work of the former Scotland International – you can read Timothy’s story below:

Dear Club / Dear Lady, Gentleman and Sir,

I am writing this letter to express my gratitude and respect to your player, good employee, the kind-hearted soul, John Barr.

My tourist trip to Scotland was quite lucky & great with lots of human science through cities and natural views in the highland, but on the last day near the shore of Loch Ness, I encountered a flat tire lakeside. Time was slipping away, and after over half an hour of no progress, with language barriers and poor data network connection, failed attempts to contact friends, I even thought I might have to spend the night by the roadside just waiting for a tow truck. How desperate I was feeling!

Then, like an angel, John appeared…

Not only did he roll down his car window, but he also repeatedly asked if I needed help. After carefully assessing the situation and ensuring safety, he parked his own vehicle in a secure spot, then moved my flat-tired car to safety, and then got down to the dirty work of changing the tire himself. Throughout the process, John patiently explained to me the importance of tightening the screws and cautioned not to drive too fast on the spare tire, emphasizing its temporary effort. What’s even more touching is that once I was back on the road, John drove behind me with hazard lights flashing for a long time before eventually disappearing.

Such actions not only demonstrate how he treats people he would like to put his hands to a stranger, but also instil trust that he is undoubtedly a reliable person in his work and professional life, details all in small matters.

I was deeply touched, but due to being a bit dazed at the time, I couldn’t fully express my gratitude and appreciation. Even a week later, I still feel grateful for his assistance! Many thanks to the angel who came to rescue my journey!

A true gentleman is not just one who dresses impeccably in a suit and tie; it’s also someone who doesn’t mind getting dirty when helping others, even when clad in sportswear, exuding nobility in every gesture! Once again, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to John and my admiration for the excellent corporate culture of your club!

Thank you again,

John! You are my hero!! Wish you all the best!!!

Sincerely,
Tim

The spirt of shinty has been plain to see over these past few weeks, but it is reaffirming to hear once again of one of our members going above and beyond to help.
