From Sunday 14th until Thursday 18th July 2024, 63 of the country’s brightest young shinty prospects, from 20 clubs across Scotland, descended upon Strathallan School in Forgandenny, Perthshire for the 2024 CT Accountants Advisors National Player Performance Camp.
Each player, aged between 14 and 17, had been nominated by their youth or senior Club to take part in the Camp, designed to offer the very best in the technical, tactical, physical and psychological aspects of the game.
Throughout the week, the young players received specialist training from Camanachd Association coaches based around all the key skills, techniques and tactics of the game. The players were able to put their developed skills and techniques into practice throughout competitive sixes and ten-aside tournaments.
Fiona Campbell a Yoga Instructor in Perthshire delivered a yoga session to support the players in their recovery and discussed ways to aid muscle recovery in the future.
A number of awards were presented at the end of Thursday’s session. The award winners were: Player of the Camp: Seumas MacFarlane (Kilmallie); Most Committed Player: Cameron Burns (Fort William); Most Improved Player: Sam MacRae (Kilmallie).
East Region Regional Development Officer and Camp Organiser, Alaina MacLennan said: “The National Performance camp continues to go from strength to strength and is an important part in the youth shinty player pathway. The standard of players this year was very high and all players demonstrated a great willingness to learn and develop throughout the camp. The players were a credit to themselves and their clubs. I would like to thank all the players, coaches, and sponsors who all played their part in a fantastic week of shinty.”
