On Sunday 30th April, the Camanachd Association held their first girls only primary tournament at Braeview Park, Beauly. The event welcomed 80 girls (10 teams) from clubs across the North of Scotland.

The teams were split into two groups, with the top two teams from each group progressing through to the semi-finals.

Despite the rain, all teams were in great spirits and some excellent shinty was on show throughout the day. The top four teams that progressed into the semi-finals were Beauly, Lovat, Kilmallie and Kingussie.

After two very well contested semi-final games that saw the Lovat v Kingussie game go to extra time and penalties, Lovat progressed into the final to play the other semi-final winners, Kilmallie.

The final was a very exciting physical game between the two teams. They both battled hard and contested in an excellent game of shinty that proved to be very close. However, it was Lovat that found the back of the net after getting past a strong Kilmallie defence. Kilmallie continued to put pressure onto Lovat, despite only having 6 girls and no subs throughout the whole day, but Lovat were playing well came out on top holding the 1-0 lead until the end.

A massive thanks goes to all players, coaches and parents for attending the event, as well as to Beauly Shinty Club for hosting and setting up the pitches. Thanks also goes to Iain Cochrane for taking the days photos. Further thanks also goes to Ruby Fraser and Katie MacKinnon who refereed the games throughout the day. Finally, a huge thank you to BR Plumbing and Heating for sponsoring the event, the support and sponsorship is very much appreciated.
