MacQuisten Cup Final - Oban Camanachd vs Kyles Athletic

Scott Campbell & Fraser MacMillan Interview

Ahead of the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final this Saturday the MacQuisten Cup Final will take place between Oban Camanachd & Kyles Athletic. We sat down with Oban Camanachd joint captains Scott and Fraser to find out more…

How are you and the rest of the team feeling ahead of the MacQuisten Final?

S: The squad has been training well and there’s a good atmosphere around the club just now. Finals are always special occasions, so there’s definitely excitement, but we’re focused on putting in a performance that reflects the work we’ve done throughout the season.

Oban Camanachd have been unlucky in the final the last couple of years, it’s a new opponent this year in Kyles Athletic, have you played them and if so, what did you make of them?

S: Yes, we’ve come up against Kyles in previous seasons and they’re always a tough side to play against. They’re well organised, work hard for each other and have quality throughout the team. We know it’ll be a difficult challenge, but it’s a final and that’s what you expect.

F: Yeah we have been unlucky the last few years in the MacQuisten so hopefully we can win it this time round, we haven’t played Kyles yet at under 17s this year, we played them in the semi last year and beat them to get to last year’s final so hopefully the same result .

What do you think the key will be to getting a victory on Saturday?

S: The key will be sticking to our game plan, working hard for one another and making the most of our chances when they come. Finals can often be decided by fine margins, so concentration and discipline will be really important.

There should be a good crowd with both the seniors and the U17 playing at Peterson Park that day, how excited are you to play on the major stage?

S: It’s something we’re all really looking forward to. Having a big crowd there creates a great atmosphere and knowing the U17s are also involved makes it a special day for the whole club. These are the occasions you want to be part of as a player.

F: Hopefully will be a good day for the club as we are both competing in the finals . I am excited to be in the final again as we have been here many times before and fallen short in the last couple of years.

How will it feel to lead your team out ahead of the Celtic Final?

F: Exited to lead the team out as it is our last year of under 17s!
