Glasgow Mid Argyll Shinty Club
Christmas Challenge and Fundraiser 2024
Our Story
Glasgow Mid Argyll Shinty Club, Glasgow Gaels GAA and BSC Glasgow have come together to manage and operate Peterson Park after the Council’s decision to close the facility following the Covid Pandemic. This is a massive undertaking by the three anchor clubs and since August this year we receive no further financial support from the council.
We are now purchasing grass cutting, pitch lining machinery and ancillary equipment to allow the grounds to be maintained through our volunteers. Following successful applications for grant funding we currently find ourselves with a £7,500 shortfall from our target.
Each anchor club have committed to raise £2,500 in order that we can save Peterson Park and ensure that we can maintain and improve the playing fields for our respective sports and the local community.
We would be incredibly grateful if those connected with the shinty community would consider donating to our fund-raising total. Your donation however large or small will help us maintain shinty in the city for both current and future generations. If you are a UK income taxpayer, please consider gift aid as we are a registered charity (SC051156).
Our Christmas Challenge 2024
During the 4 weeks leading up to Christmas, Glasgow Mid Argyll are taking a 3600km road trip from Glasgow to Lapland and need your help.
We are looking to raise vital funds towards the purchase of grass maintenance equipment for Peterson Park to ensure that we can preserve a home for shinty within the city and will be setting up a GMA Peterson Park Just Giving Page
In order for us to complete the challenge we are calling on all players, members, partners, families, and friends of the club to get involved by walking, running, cycling, golfing, swimming (or whatever form of exercise you can contribute) to clock up the distance and help us reach Lapland by Christmas day.
Distances can be logged on the GMA Shinty Club Strava Group or logged in each week by email if you prefer. GMA Christmas Challenge 2024
We will track our virtual progress over the four-week period with prizes awarded for the furthest distances travelled.
Please do get involved in our challenge with the benefit of maintaining your fitness levels, physical and mental wellbeing and a bit of healthy competition during December whilst helping to raise vital funds for Peterson Park.
More details to follow over the next week with our journey commencing on Friday 22nd November.
Please share as widely as you can. The more taking part the better!
