Ahead of this weekend’s Highland Industrial Supplies Sutherland Cup Semi-Finals we caught up with Glenurquhart II star Neale Reid. There will be an interview with Skye’s Seonaidh Alex MacLeod later in the week. You can also read interviews with Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup Semi-Finalists Donald Nixon and Cameron Bremner from before the Macaulay Semi here.

A big semi-final this weekend as you take on Skye in the Highland Industrial Supplies Sutherland Cup, how are you and the team preparing for this match?
We’ve been training hard throughout the season, we’ve upped the intensity at training the last few weeks, the managers have been working closely with the team to make sure we are physically and mentally up for it!
Skye beat you at home on Gameweek 3, but you returned the favour a few weeks later, what do you make of this Skye side, what are their strengths?
Skye are a really fit and physical side and they do not give up, they will fight and push you to the very end of the match.
The 2nd team are on a good run in the Sutherland and the 1st team sit top of the MOWI National, how are the club coping with having 2 really important games this weekend?
We were coping pretty good I think, there’s good turn outs at training from the boys and with both teams pushing for silverware there’s definitely competitiveness to get a spot in the team which is good.
On a personal note, a really impressive 21 goals across all competitions this season, what are your goals for the rest of the campaign?
My goal for the rest of the campaign is to help progress the young lads in the team. Help them to understand the game better and hopefully help them become better shinty players and get them pushing for a spot in the first team in the next year or two – and hopefully lift the Sutherland cup too of course haha!
What would it mean to play in the 100th Anniversary Final at Blairbeg Park?
It would mean a great deal to GlenUrquhart to be in the final it’s on our home ground and our manager Garry sponsors the cup so we want to play in the final not only for ourselfs but for him also.
