Highland Industrial Supplies Final - Lochside Rovers vs Kinlochshiel
Rory Barclay Interview
The Highland Industrial Supplies Sutherland Cup Final takes place this weekend, with Kinlochshiel facing off against Lochside Rovers as they look to lift the trophy for the first time since 1977. Having fallen at the final hurdle last season, Shiel will be looking to go one better this year and we spoke to captain Rory Barclay to get his thoughts ahead of the game.
It’s a trip to Blairbeg Park to compete the HIS Sutherland Cup final, how is the mood in the camp ahead of the game?
There’s a right buzz about the team, boys have been well training as usual, are injury free and are ready for the big day.
Last year’s final was one of the best shinty games played in the last few years but Shiel came short, will the boys be raring to right the wrongs of last year?
Last year was a tough one for the boys, it was a difficult game against one of the best sides that season. The game was a testament to how well the boys cope under pressure, and this year with a very similar squad we are all ready to give our best and succeed this time round.
You’ll have the services of Jay MacRae who has been showing his talents in the Mowi Premiership, how big an asset is he to an already strong forward line?
Jay’s a great player which he shows week in week out. I’m sure he will be looking for couple of goals come Saturday.
How much would it mean to be the man who lifts the trophy above your head come Saturday evening?
It would be an incredible feeling to be able to lift the cup, not just for the team but the community.
You’ve got two assistant managers who were in the last Shiel team to lift the cup in 1977, how important is their experience combined with Martin’s management?
Duncan and Doe’s experience and advice have been very valuable on the sidelines throughout the lead up to this final, combined with Martin’s youthful input we are in a great position going into this game.
