This International Women’s Day we are celebrating women who the shinty world owes so much too!

June, originally from Dunoon, came to Oban in the sixties when her father was posted there with the police.

June married Oban Celtic player Jim Pearson and has been volunteering for the club for over sixty years. She helped run the Oban Celtic Supporters Club which ran the Oban Celtic player of the year awards, whist drives, sales of work, and so on.

June had a spell of washing the strips after every game, taking the gate money at home games and with her sister Ann helped with the teas at half-time, as well as playing with the Oban Celtic women’s team.

She travelled to many away games either in the team bus or with other supporters and she was a well kent face at away grounds especially at Tighnabruich and Newtnomore.

She still takes the gate money for Celtic’s hoe games and is involved with the Macaulay Association aat the Macaulay Sixes and the Artemis Macaulay Cup Final.

There are few who are so dedicated to one club, giving their time so generously and seeking no rewards. Our sport need more people like June.

Thanks to Oban Celtic for nominating June.

If you would like to nominate someone, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the Camanachd Association.
