JAMES ( JIMMY ) SNODGRASS –
CABERFEIDH, ROSS-SHIRE CAMANACHD ASSOCIATION, SCHOOLS CAMANACHD ASSOCIATION
It was with deep regret and great sadness that on Wednesday 24th September that we learned of the passing of James ( Jimmy ) Snodgrass at his home in Achterneed, Strathpeffer, after a long illness.
Jimmy’s interest in shinty stemmed from his early years when he learned of his late mother’s passion for the Furnace Shinty Club and shinty in that area. A native of Glasgow Jimmy spent virtually all of his school holidays in Argyllshire with relatives. His interest continued in later years when he was a regular attender at Camanachd Cup Finals.
Jimmy and his wife Moira spent some time in Bunessan in Mull before moving to Dingwall in 1981 where he took up a post as a Mathematics teacher in Dingwall Academy. Moira, also a teacher, taught in schools in the Black Isle before taking up the post of Headteacher at Fodderty Primary School, Strathpeffer in 1987.
From then on both Jimmy and Moira took a very active interest in Shinty. Jimmy, with shinty teams in Dingwall Academy and Moira at Fodderty School and later at the new Primary School in Strathpeffer. They were both keen and active members of the Schools Camanachd Association.
Jimmy was later involved with the Ross-shire Camanachd Association, where he served a term as President. He was also a committee member of Caberfeidh Shinty Club.
Although unable to attend shinty matches in his later years Jimmy still maintained a great interest in the game and was able to watch the recent Camanachd Cup Final on television.
Jimmy will be greatly missed and our deepest sympathies are extended to Moira, their daughters Morven and LIndsay, and grand-daughter Lily, in their sad loss.
Jimmy’s funeral Service will be held within Fodderty and Strathpeffer Parish Church on Wednesday 8th October at 12.30pm. A private cremation will follow.
