Kingussie Crowned North 2 Champions After Dominant Season

In a season marked by invigorating cup victories and consistent performances, Kingussie were crowned league champions once again, finishing the campaign with an impressive 28 points. Their path to glory was sealed with a string of commanding results, confirming their place at the top of the table.

Kingussie’s started strongly, kicking off the season in March with a decisive 4-0 win over Aberdeen University and following up with a thrilling 5-4 triumph against Lewis in what was one of the matches of the season. One of their standout performances came in late March, when they defeated Inverness 7-0, further solidifying their credentials as title contenders.

The team’s attacking prowess, spearheaded by top scorer Michael Slimon, who netted 16 league goals over the course of the season, was instrumental in securing crucial victories. Their most challenging moment came in June, where they narrowly lost to Lewis 5-4 – a reversal of the March scoreline. However, they quickly rebounded, showing resilience and focus to continue their march towards the title. By the end of July, with another win over Boleskine (4-1), it became clear that Kingussie’s hold on the top spot was secure.

Defensively, Kingussie proved just as formidable, conceding only 17 league goals all season – the second fewest in the division, edged out by Caberfeidh (15). Their tactical discipline shone through in a run of 5 clean sheets in the league from April to June.

Despite a couple of draws towards the end of the season, including a 2-2 tie against Lochaber on the final day of the season with the league already sewn up, their lead was unassailable. Lewis, their closest rival, finished five points behind with 23 points.

This campaign and Kingussie’s return to Mowi North Division 1 wasn’t necessarily a surprise. However, coupling it with a Highland Industrial Supplies Sutherland Cup victory and winning the double with a focus on the next generation of young stars has made this a season to remember for all in red and blue.

Well done to all at Kingussie for this achievement.
