Saturday’s Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final will be preceded by the MacQuisten Cup Final, as Glasgow Mid Argyll under 17s face off against Oban Camanachd under 17s for their shot at glory. Ahead of the match we spoke to GMA’s Ruairidh MacSween…
How are you and the rest of the squad feeling in the build up to this years MacQuisten Cup Final?
“In the build-up to this year’s MacQuisten Cup Final, we are feeling optimistic and excited. We’ve built on our experience from last year, where we made it to the semi-final in the London Shield competition. This has given us valuable insights and confidence as we approach the final. As a squad, we’ve been training twice a week, which has strengthened our teamwork and preparation. We’re ready to give it our all and make this final a memorable one!”
This is a repeat of last years final what are your thoughts on Oban Camanachd coming into this game?
“As this final is a repeat of last year’s matchup, we know that Oban Camanachd will come into the game ready to compete hard. After winning last year, we anticipate a very physical encounter, as there is never anything easy when playing against Oban. Their determination and skill make them a formidable opponent, and we are prepared for a challenging match. We respect their capabilities and are focused on bringing our best performance to secure the victory again.”
How has the preparation been going into the final for you and the squad?
“Preparation for the final has been going well for both me and the squad. The vast majority of our team is currently playing senior shinty at the national or South 1st division level, which adds to our overall experience and skill. Our preparation is ongoing, and our coaches are keeping us on our toes, ensuring that we stay focused and sharp. We’re putting in the necessary work to be ready for the challenge ahead, and I believe this dedication will pay off in the final.”
How does it feel to captain your club in a cup final?
“Captaining my club in a cup final is truly an honour, especially as it’s my home club, which makes it even more special to me. However, with this honour comes the responsibility of leading on the pitch and motivating everyone around me. I take this role seriously, as I want to inspire my teammates to perform at their best and create a memorable experience for all of us. It’s a privilege to represent my club in such an important match, and I’m ready to give my all for the team.”
