This week’s MOWI Game of the Week sees the return of Women’s Shinty after a 2 week break. We caught up with Jeanette MacGregor ahead of Badenoch Ladies A vs Strathglass this weekend.

How does it feel to be on the verge of returning to play shinty for the first time in so long?

It’s great to eventually be back, it’s certainly been a long time coming. We’ve been back training for quite a while and haven’t had much luck with matches so far so to get back on the pitch and into some competitive games will be great!

How are the girls feeling ahead of the match?

Think there all excited, like I said it’s been a long time coming. Some of the girls managed to get some game time in a friendly v Inverness at the start of June, fingers crossed this will be the start of a run of games.

What strengths do you think Strathglass will bring to the table?

We haven’t played Strathglass since our earlier years so they’re a bit of an unknown to be honest, I’m sure they still have a few of the girls still playing now but expect there to be some new younger faces.

They obviously have a game under their belt this season, do you think that will help them this weekend?

Possibly have a slight edge on match sharpness, but saying that they won’t have played in 4 weeks come Sunday. We’ve had decent numbers at our trainings and matches at the end are just as competitive.

What is it like having an A & B team in the same league – do you think there will still be an intensity when those games come around?

Probably more so! No one will want to lose bragging rights. It’s great though, the girls are a great bunch we obviously never got the chance to debut our ‘second’ team so this helps the less experienced players gain more experience whilst playing along side girls who have been playing in the National league for a number of years. Which can only be a good thing for Womens shinty in Badenoch!
