Mowi Game of the Week - Glengarry vs Ardnamurchan

Leona Falconer Interview

It’s a matchup between Glengarry and Ardnamurchan in the Mowi National Division this Sunday. Ahead of the game, we spoke to Glengarry’s Leona Falconer.

It’s Ardnamurchan in the league this weekend – how are you feeling ahead of the game?

We know we can match up well with them after our last game earlier in the season, as always it’s a team effort on the day and we hope to put in a similar performance against Ardnamurchan this Sunday.

Last week’s result didn’t go your way, but you welcomed two players back into the squad – how big a boost can they be ahead of Sunday’s game?

Getting two players back into the squad is always a significant boost, especially at this stage of the season. Even though last week’s result didn’t go our way, having them available again brings added experience and depth all of which are crucial going into Sunday. It’s about bouncing back now, and having players return gives us that extra belief and momentum.

A 3-3 draw earlier on in the season shows how evenly matched the two sides are – what did you make of them that day, what do you think their strengths are and how can you get at them?

I think Ardnamurchan played well in our last match it was an exciting end to end match. I think they have a good defence and good long hitting. I think we will have to put a lot of pressure on there defence and take any chance at goal we can get.

How have you found the new National division format? Has it been good playing teams in the South on a more regular basis?

I’ve found it really exciting to get to play against new teams we’ve not played against, and a great opportunity to play against teams we’ve not played against in a good few years.

You’ve been making the journey up from England to play Shinty on a regular basis – how big a role does Shinty play in your life?

Since moving down to England in 2020 I was still eager to play for Glengarry as I have been with them since 2013. Shinty has been a huge part of my life since I was 11 and continues to play a big role in my life. I love the competitiveness of the game and the team work.
