The MOWI Game of the Week this week is Fort William’s trip to Mossfield. Oban Camanachd are fresh off the back of a 3-0 opening day win against GMA, while Fort William’s return to the Premiership saw them held 2-2 by Kyles. We spoke to Daniel Sloss ahead of the big game…
Talk me through last weekend’s match how did that go – are the boys feeling fresh ahead of Saturday?
Daniel, a good start on Saturday against GMA – what are the targets for Oban Camanachd this season?
This season we are looking to win back the Celtic society cup and a big push on winning a national trophy. A top half finish in the league would be a realistic goal.
Fort William this weekend – you played them in pre-season winning 6-0 – what did you make of them? What kind of test are you expecting?
Fort are a good team and you can’t take a lot from our pre season game as the had a lot of there big players missing that day and teams try a lot of different tactics in these games.I expect a different game which will be hard fought fast flowing game.
How are things under the new management – has much changed from last year or is it a case of continuing what you were doing?
There has been a lot of changes in the management and a few younger boys coming into the squad. I have worked with Gareth when at Lochside so it’s an easy transition for me (especially as it’s not my father). Gareth has a different management style which a lot of us are used to so hopefully we can build of this going forward
This year’s squad is very different from 2019. Several of our experienced players are no longer playing so a lot of the younger boys are getting the chance at senior level this season. If we can be consistent at scoring and with our strong defence we shouldn’t be far away from our targets.
