Ahead of this weekend’s Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final we caught up with Kyles Athletic Manager, Robert Baxter.
Robert, first things first, congratulations on making it to the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final – how has preparation gone ahead of the big day?
Preparations haven’t been good due to our injury woes. Two broken legs, an Achilles tendon injury, a broken thumb and now a shoulder injury. All to key players.
This is obviously the second final you have been involved in this year, do you think the experience of the Artemis Macaulay Cup Final will help you on Saturday?
It’s great to be involved in Celtic Cup final as its the South clubs premier trophy, I don’t think experience of other cup finals is going to come into the equation. It’s the two best teams in the South playing against each other, it will be a very close match
What are Oban’s strengths – how might they hurt your Kyles side?
I think Oban’s strength is possibly their depth of squad. They have larger numbers to choose from and all very good players.
Andrew MacCuish is back for Oban Camanachd – how can Kyles counter his threat?
Andrew is a class act, the same as Roddy is for ourselves. These two players are two of the best forwards in the game and are both a massive threats. We know our defence has to be completely switched on
Oban have won the final against Kyles on the last two occasions – how much pride would it give you to lead Kyles to the trophy in your first season as manager?
Personally it would give me a great deal of pride and satisfaction if Kyles won the trophy for the 35th time in my first season as manager. It’s another huge game for the club which we are all looking forward to.
