Mowi Game of the Week - Kinlochshiel V Kingussie
Thomas Borthwick Interview
With just a few fixtures remaining in the Mowi Premiership, Kinlochshiel will welcome Kingussie for what promises to be an exciting game in Rearaig, Balmacara, this weekend. Ahead of the fixture, we caught up with Thomas Borthwick to get his thoughts on the upcoming match and Kingussie’s season so far.
How are you and the rest of the squad feeling heading into Saturday’s trip to Kinlochshiel?
The whole squad is feeling good going into Saturday, except for the boys ruled out for the season with injuries; everyone else is ready to go and eager to end a long season on a positive note.
Kingussie have enjoyed another excellent season and lifted the Camanachd Cup. How pleased have you been with the team’s performances this year?
Delighted for Ruaridh and the rest of the team on the success of the season so far. We have done really well once again during a season with lots of injuries. Still, a huge match is left to finish the season, so there’s lots left to do.
You have already faced Kinlochshiel a couple of times this season, including a close 3-2 extra-time victory. What sort of challenge are you expecting?
We’re expecting a very difficult game against a strong Kinlochshiel side on a tough pitch to play shinty on. They pushed us all the way at the Dell, and that game could have gone either way, so I’m sure they will be looking to get some redemption.
With the league title race still very much in focus, what do you think will be the key to coming away from Rearaig with another victory on Saturday?
I think the key to coming away with a victory on Saturday has to start by competing for everything. It’s not a park where we can play our normal style of shinty, so we will have to adapt and try to be more physical and take our chances when we get them.
