Newtonmore II win MOWI North Division 1

Congratulations to Newtonmore who have retained the MOWI North Division 1 title after beating Lovat II by 7 goals to 0 at The Eilan. That result meant that despite Inverness’ game in hand against Fort William, the Badenoch side will finish at least 2 points clear at the top of the table.

Inverness had the better start of the two sides and led the table for much of the season but in the end Newtonmore’s consistency saw them pull away from the city dwellers. A 3-1 victory against Inverness at Braeview Park (with the Bught out of action) on October 1st combined with Inverness dropping points the following week, opened the door for ‘More to take the title.

51 goals in all competitions for Glen MacKintosh is an astounding figure and no doubt played its part in the success of Newtonmore this year. It was refreshing to see a number of younger players get their chance in the 2nd team though, alongside the experienced heads: MacKintosh, Menzies, McIsaac and MacLeod.

Newtonmore’s triumph has a knock on effect down in Glendaruel as Col-Glen are now guaranteed MOWI National Division shinty in 2023 as Newtonmore II are ineligible for promotion.

Once again warm congratulations to Newtonmore on winning North Division 1.
