Wednesday 8th September 2021 saw the Tulloch Homes Primary Cup Finals Day take place at An Aird, Fort William between Newtonmore Primary and GlenUrquhart/Balnain Primaries.
Both schools had come through the group stages of this competition having played, and beaten schools from their local area to qualify. Unfortunately due to COVID cases, school restrictions and players isolating there were a number of additional teams who had won through to finals day that sadly could not make it.
The game, officiated by Fort William Development Officer and CA Board Member Willie MacDonald, started quickly with Newtonmore first out the blocks and James Coyle from Newtonmore finding the net on the 1 minute mark and then again on the second.
Newtonmore were relentless in their pressure and by the half time break a number of additional goals had been scored. The game was then out of reach of the brave GlenUrquhart/Balnain team who didn’t let their heads go down and defended tirelessly throughout the first period.
Newtonmore switched their team around in the second half, moving players around the park into different positions. The GlenUrquhart/Balnain squad marked tight and defended diligently but still couldn’t stop this talented Newtonmore team from scoring time again with the Captain Joseph-Luca Brannan getting a double early in the second half.
Having said this the score would have been higher if it wasn’t for some of the fantastic saves the GlenUrquhart/Balnain goalkeeper made throughout the game. Newtonmore’s slick passing and movement off the ball ensured they kept their lead well and truly intact.
Willie MacDonald blew his whistle and drew the game to a close and Joseph-Luca Brannan, Newtonmore’s Captain deservedly collected Tulloch Homes Primary Cup for 2021.
Thanks went to both sets of players, coaches and parents for their support before during and after the event. To referee Willie MacDonald for officiating the game, to Fort William Shinty Club for hosting the event and to the sponsors Tulloch Homes .
