Saturday the 20^th of June saw Peterson Park, Yoker host the MacQuisten Cup Final the south under 17 showpiece between Kyles Athletic and Oban Camanachd. Kyles made their way to the final after defeating GMA in Strachur in their semi-final, while Camanachd defeated Inveraray in Taynuilt to earn their spot in the final.

The teams and their coaches were piped out on to the field of play by Innes Begg led by referee Ryan Stewart along side his goal judges Jamie Patterson and Euan Pearson. The teams were greeted on the field by Celtic Society president Angus MacInnes and Barry Martin of the Camanachd Association before the action got underway.

It was Kyles who started the stronger of the 2 side with a wind behind them got off to get a good start. After 6 minutes Olly McVicar gave Kyles the lead when he was played into space and with a well struck shot found the back of the net to give the Cowal side the early advantage.

Oban Camanachd were sure to make sure Kyles didn’t have it all their own way. A well worked move from Oban gave Finn Mackechnie the opportunity to equalise and in the 16th minute he made the scores 1-1.

In what proved to be an end-to-end tie it was McVicar who once again gave Kyles the lead in the 23^rd minute.

Only 2 minutes later though Oban went up to the other end of the park and equalised through Innes Mackay indicating the early signs of what an exciting and end to end final this would prove to be.

Once more though Kyles went on the attack and again Olly McVicar managed to find space after more impressive link up play from the Kyles forwards to again give them the upper hand in the tie on the 30-minute mark.

The remainder of the half saw both sides creating chances however there were no further changes to the score as Ryan Stewart drew an end to the half.

In the 2^nd half it was Oban Camanachd who now had the wind at their back but it was once again Kyles who converted first with McVicar grabbing his 4^th goal of the game for Kyles giving them a 2 goal lead for the first time in the game shortly after the restart.

The two-goal buffer would not last long and Camanachd would not go out without a fight. In the 55^th minute the impressive Finn Mackechnie made the score 4-3 grabbing his second of the game which again was another nice move with good link up play from the Oban side.

Innes Mackay not to be outscored by his teammate got his 2^nd goal to make the tie 4-4 in the 75^th minute in what would lead to an extremely exciting end to a very evenly matched game.

Kyles pushed back trying to get their lead back and had chances to make it 5-4 but it was Oban who made the most of their chances and through Lewis Jordan scored in the 85^th minute of the game giving Oban the lead for the first time in the match with only 5 minutes to play.

Oban Camanachd remained on top for the remainder of the game and Oban co-captain Scott Campbell who had a great battle with Kyles Luke McVicar in the middle of the park got his goal in the 90^th minute to make the score 6-4.

The final action of the day was Innes Mackay netting in the 93^rd minute to complete his hattrick and make the score 7-4 and end what was a fantastic advertisement for shinty.

Ethan Kerr, Olly McVicar and Luke McVicar were excellent throughout for Kyles.  While Scott Campbell, Finn Mackechnie & Innes Mackay were influential and clinical for their side on the day.

Angus Macinnes & Barry Martin conducted the presentation where they handed over the MacQuisten Cup to the Oban Camanachd co captains Scott Campbell and Fraser MacMillan.
