The U14s will play for the Fraser MacPhee Memorial Cup
Fraser was outstanding at shinty and football for Fort William as well as at snowboarding. He died in March 2002, aged 14, as a result of a tragic accident at home. He is remembered by this Cup and in other ways, for the occasions on which his sportsmanship and appreciation of others, overruled his competitiveness. In 2nd year at High School he was seriously chuffed to be offered the captaincy of both the shinty and football teams. He did not find it easy, but declined to be football captain in favour of shinty, as he didn’t think it fair to his coaches or teammates to try to do both.
“When the time comes to write against his name, it will be remembered not who won or lost, but how he played the game”
The trophy was donated by his family in 2003. They wish all players and officials here today every pleasure and success in their sport. The Cup will be presented to the winning captain by a member of the MacPhee family.
The Camanachd Association would like to take this opportunity to thank Rosemary and the MacPhee family for their generosity and continued support of this event; it is greatly appreciated by all players and coaches.
