Sunday 7th June saw the Macaulay Sixes return to Mossfield Stadium in Oban, with 26 teams competing across three categories: Development (P1–3), P5 & Under, and P6/7.

The Development section featured six teams split into two groups, with the top two from each progressing to the semi-finals. Fionniphort and Park advanced from Section 1, while Inverlochy Juniors and Rockfield Juniors progressed from Section 2. Two closely contested semi-finals followed, with Inverlochy Juniors defeating Fionniphort 3–1, while Rockfield Juniors secured a convincing 4–0 win over Park to book their place in the final. In the final, Rockfield Juniors proved too strong, capping off an impressive and consistent performance throughout the day. It was particularly encouraging to see so many young players involved, including several Primary 1 pupils who contributed greatly to their teams.

The P5 & Under section was also split into two groups of five teams. In Section 1, Park and Aberdour progressed after a series of strong performances. Section 2 was equally competitive, with BSGLA and Rockfield Blues narrowly securing the top spots to complete the semi-final line-up. The first semi-final saw Park take on BSGLA in a tightly contested match. Despite chances for both sides, Park’s persistence paid off as they secured a 2–0 victory to reach the final. The second semi-final between Aberdour and Rockfield Blues was an entertaining, end-to-end contest, with both teams attacking well. Aberdour edged a thrilling encounter 3–2 to book their place in the final. In the final, Rockfield faced Aberdour. Aberdour started brightly and created early chances, but Rockfield grew into the game and ultimately proved too strong, running out 2–0 winners to conclude a highly competitive section.

The P6/7 section featured 10 teams, again split into two groups of five. In Section 1, Rockfield and Kyles topped the group after producing some excellent shinty, while in Section 2, St Columba’s and Inverlochy edged through to the semi-finals. In the first semi-final, Rockfield faced St Columba’s and made a dominant start, racing into a 2–0 lead with a quick-fire double. They maintained control throughout and secured a 4–0 victory to reach the final. The second semi-final saw Kyles take on Inverlochy, with Kyles starting strongly and establishing a 4–0 lead by half-time, which proved decisive. The final between Kyles and Rockfield brought together two in-form teams. After a competitive opening, Rockfield began to take control of the midfield, with Arthur Handley delivering a standout performance. They gradually broke down the Kyles defence, scoring four unanswered goals to secure victory and bring an excellent day of shinty to a close.

Following the matches, presentations were held with the winning captains collecting their trophies: Rockfield Juniors (Macaulay Development Cup), Park (Alasdair Campbell Shield – P5), and Rockfield (Ian Cumming Memorial Trophy – P7). Individual awards were also presented. Jaimee MacIntyre of Rockfield Juniors was named Girls’ Player of the Tournament for her outstanding performances and determination, while Arthur Handley of Rockfield was deservedly awarded Boys’ Player of the Tournament, with his goals, commitment, and leadership playing a key role in his team’s success.

Roddy Young of the Camanachd Association commented: “The Macaulay Sixes was once again a great success. It was fantastic to see teams from across the country competing. The Development section provides young players with valuable opportunities to play competitive shinty, and the standard in the older sections was tremendous. A huge thank you goes to the Macaulay Association for organising the event, as well as to the volunteers who refereed and ran the bake sale—these events would not be possible without their dedication and support.”
