The second annual Shinty Memories Golf championship, being held this year at Kingussie Golf club on Sunday August 28, has received a major boost with the announcement of a sponsorship agreement with Birchwood Financial Planning, based in Elgin.

Birchwood is a Partner Practice of St. James’s Place, working across Moray and the Highlands, offering financial advice across multiple areas, including investment planning, retirement planning and inheritance tax planning, all of which aims to put clients in a better financial position.

Andrew Storey, Financial planner at Birchwood Financial Planning, said: “Our interests are very much the same as Shinty Memories Scotland and we are pleased to be able to offer the national network some financial assistance to enable this tournament to go ahead and be a key part of the organisation’s annual funding effort. We work in the same way as Shinty Memories, understanding that a ‘one size fits all’ approach does not work and therefore we take time to get to know clients and their needs before working with them to find an appropriate solution. I wish the organisers and participants well. And I am delighted we could help with such a worthy cause”

Welcoming the financial support, Shinty Memories Scotland Ambassador John MacKenzie, MBE said: “This is a very welcome bit of news as we complete the planning for the championship this weekend. Last year’s effort, in conjunction with the Craigie Hill Club in Perth was an outstanding success and put us in a very healthy position going forward, albeit that our activities were largely curtailed as everyone emerged from then pandemic. We are now on the way to re-launching our efforts and the support from Birchwood is much appreciated and will be put to good use.”

There are still a small number of places available for four-strong teams wishing to enter this weekend’s championship played as a Texas Scramble at Kingussie Golf Club, Gynack Rd, Kingussie PH21 1LR. There will be a Shotgun start at Mid-day, with teams to arrive at 1100 for Registration. The cost is £140 per team and this Includes buffet BBQ food at the end of the round. Trophy Presentation to be followed by Raffle and Auction for items including four-ball rounds at prestigious locations such as the Royal Dornoch Golf Club, Nairn Golf Club and Castle Stuart. All proceeds from the day will go towards the activities of Shinty Memories Scotland.
