It’s Game On as the 2026 Summer of Sport launches to bring golf and shinty to young people in the Highlands and Islands

Scottish Golf and the Camanachd Association, working in partnership with sportscotland, have secured funding from the national initiative to provide free and low-cost opportunities for young people to experience both golf and shinty in rural Scotland as part of the national agency’s 2026 Summer of Sport.

This joint golf-and-shinty project makes the most of the synergy between the two sports, and its foundation in the Highlands. Activities will run throughout the summer and beyond, where young people in rural Scotland (Argyll & Bute, Inverness-shire, Badenoch & Strathspey) can access a range of free and subsided sessions in golf and shinty clubs, helping remove barriers to participation and ensure more young people have the chance to play both sports. Aimed at children 8-14, this unique partnership will also focus on under-represented groups in both sports: women and girls, those for whom accessing sport presents a financial challenge, and young people who are not meeting recommended physical activity levels.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve never picked up a shinty stick or hit a golf ball before, our coaches are here to help and make sure you have fun – all equipment for golf and shinty will be provided!

The camps are fully funded by the sportscotland 2026 Summer of Sport Project, meaning every camp is free of charge.
