Well done to all the players who played in the 2022 Tulloch Homes National Primary School Finals Day last week at An Aird in Fort William.
Everyone played so well, had fun, and we saw some great shinty. Finals day was fought out between six schools, Newtonmore Primary School, Glenurquhart/ Balnain Primaries, Muirtown Primary, Caol Primary school, Glasgow Gaelic School and Tighnabruiach Primary. After the round robin was complete a semi final was contested between Glenurquhart/ Balnain and Tighnabruiach, with Glenurquhart proceeding to the finals after an exciting match coming down to the final minutes.
Glenurquhart/ Balnain were joined in the final by Newtonmore Primary, who started strong with the 1st goal from James Coyle soon after the match began. Glenurquhart/ Balnain quickly coming back with two goals back-to-back within 4 minutes, both from Glen MacDonald. James Coyle coming back for his second goal just before 6 minutes, a great ball high and floated in from just over halfway. Some great saves from both keepers kept out a lot of chances for both teams, and a foul lead to a no goal just before half time.
Quickly after half time, Jadon McCormack from Newtonmore made it 3-2 to Newtonmore. A great save from Emily from Glenurquhart/ Balnain knocking it out and over the bar. Some fantastic goal keeping from Emily in her first time playing in goals. Another two quick goals from Newtonmore and a third for James Coyle a couple of minutes before full time coming from halfway into the top left corner of the goal. The final goal come in the last minute of the game to bring one back for Glenurquhart. Some great balls from the middle of the field from both teams in the exciting second half which rounded the day off with a 5-3 win for Newtonmore.
Many thanks to the Fort William for the use of their pitch, and to Ben Mackenzie and Willie MacDonald for officiating on the day. Also, thanks to all the players, parents and coaches for a fantastic day.
