We are excited to announce the USA Girls Shinty Camp taking place in June 2024.
Forty-two players from five schools across Scotland will be traveling to the USA to take part in a training camp which will provide a once in a lifetime trip.
This opportunity was offered to all schools of shinty. Five schools accepted and all have been very excited about the prospect ever since. Kingussie High School is one of the schools who is part of the USA Camp 2024 and we spoke to Ian Adamson:
“The trip to America is an exciting opportunity for girls from Kingussie High School to create life long memories while promoting the sport of shinty. Female participation in shinty has always been encouraged at Kingussie High School, and this opportunity plus the success of the Badenoch Ladies team has really inspired new players to pick up a Caman and become involved in the sport. Our school of shinty programme is evidence of this, as there are more girls participating in shinty sessions and they can see a pathway to the Badenoch Ladies team through fantastic female role models who welcome the girls along to training. I look forward to seeing the girls work together over the coming months to fundraise and prepare for this once in a lifetime opportunity.”
Prior to the camp in June 2024 we plan to bring all players together for training and team building. The first of which will take place in November. Bringing the group together will be an important aspect of allowing the players to integrate as a team before travelling in June 2024.
The USA Girls Shinty Camp is an opportunity for the players to learn and develop their skills as athletes on and off the field. We hope this camp will inspire young shinty girls across Scotland who may want to take part in the USA Shinty Camp in future years.
