From Monday 11th until Thursday 14th of July 2022, a number of Glasgow’s youngest stars took part in the Glasgow Mid Argyll Summer Camp. These young stars descended upon Peterson Park, Yoker to take part in the camp, which was implemented to sustain participation at P1-S1 age group throughout the summer holidays.

Each player, aged between 5 and 14 took part in the Camp, which was designed to improve all aspects of the game and to provide these young stars with chances to participate in Shinty within the Central Belt. It turned out to be a great success, with an average of 23 young prospects taking part throughout each day of the 4-day Camp.

Camanachd Association’s Regional Development Officer, Roddy Young commented: “The Glasgow Mid Argyll Summer Camp turned out to be a great initiative for the Glasgow area. Many young prospects got the chance to showcase and improve aspects of their game, with the help of some top-class coaches from Glasgow Mid Argyll. These young athletes are the future of Shinty, and camps such as this help them to realise their potential and the number of great opportunities around them in the Central belt.”

I would also like to say a huge thank you to the number of coaches and volunteers that helped provide quality sessions throughout the week, and I look forward to working closely with them again soon to continue the growth of Shinty in the Central Belt.
