The crowds were treated two highly competitive games, both going to extra time and one being pushed to a penalty play-off.

First up was the U16s match, where the top 32 girls from across Scotland were selected and evenly split into 2 teams: the Reds & the Blues. Credit goes to red coach Alaina MacLennan and Blue coach Caitlin Mutch who created 2 very competitive teams.

This game saw an avalanche of goals from the go, with the Blues taking a quick lead through Inverness’ Kamryn Hughes with the Reds equalising through Badenoch’s Lexi Farquhar, this pair didn’t stop until it was 3-3, it was Inverness’ Isla MacNeil that clinched the half time lead for the Blues.

Half time: Reds 3 – 4 Blues

The Reds came out and quickly got in the lead with goals from Inverness’ Kayla Hughes and Glenurquhart’s Rowan Brockie, but Isla MacNeil made it equal again by netting for the Blues, but the Reds replied through Lochaber’s Brooke Falconer,  the game was definitely not over as Inverness’ Rebekah MacLean scored for the blues to make it 6-6 at Full Time.

The Reds took the lead in extra time at half time with another Rowan Brockie goal, however in the 2nd half of extra time goals from Isla MacNeil x2 Kamryn Hughes secured a 9-7 win for the blue side.

Captain Teri MacLeod (Skye) was presented the shield by Macaulay Association President Roddy Macuish.

Kinlochshiel’s Kacie MacRae (Red) was named the player of the match.

Next up was the seniors where it was the vest from the East V the West. The reds coached by Andrew MacKenzie and Ian Morrison, got off to a great start taking the lead through goals by Dunadd’s Eilidh Cameron and GMAs Beth MacLennan, however the East coached by Ross Brown and Scott Campbell fought back and took the lead through Badenoch’s Megan Ralf x 2 and Zoe Reid. Eilidh Cameron got the equaliser, but Glenurquhart’s Hazel Hunter found the net for the East, however the game was not Iver as Eilidh Cameron struck her hattrick, bringing on Extra time, with the full-time score 4- 4.

It was the West that took the lead in extra time through Skye’s Caitlin MacLean, it was beginning to look like it was over until Lochaber’s Natalie MacDonald struck for the East making it 5-5 at Ft of ET.

Penalties were upon us, each team taking 5 apiece they were gridlocked at 1-1, so Sudden death began, and it was Lovats Laura Soffe that netted the winner for the East.

East Captain Mairi Stewart (Badenoch) was presented with the cup by Macaulay Association President Roddy McCuish.

Kinlochshiel’s Lexie MacKenzie was awarded the player of the match award.

The Women’s Camanachd Association are indebted to the Macaulay Association for their continued support and sponsorship of this yearly event.
