W M Donald Game of the Week - Kingussie vs Lochaber

Bob McGregor Interview

The first finalists at the newly renovated Bught Park will be decided on Saturday, as holders Kingussie welcome a so far undefeated Lochaber side to The Dell in the W M Donald MacTavish Cup Semi-Final. Ahead of the big fixture we caught up with Kingussie goalie Bob McGregor.

You’re one game away from reaching the first final of the Shinty calendar – how are you looking forward to the game?

Yeah, we’re looking forward to the game with the chance of getting into another final – but we know as a team it’s not going to be an easy task against a very good Lochaber team.

A win would mean you would face one of either Fort William or Lovat in a repeat of one of 2024’s finals – does this add an extra layer of motivation?

I wouldn’t say it adds any extra motivation – we just have to concentrate on Saturday’s game. We aren’t thinking about the final, or who the opposition will be – all focus is on this weekends game!

It was a draw on Saturday vs Kyles – what will Kingussie do to improve their performance this week?

Work hard at training this week and come Saturday, we just have to take our chances. We will have Robert (Mabon) back and hopefully Ruaridh (Anderson) which will make a huge difference to us.

What do you see as Lochaber’s main threats, and how will the team look to nullify these?

I think it’ll be about limiting their forward’s opportunities at goal and stopping the supply in to them, as they’ve got dangerous players up front who know where the goals are.
