North and South shinty’s cup finalists were set on Saturday, with 4 toughly fought semi finals setting up two rematches of 2024 finals.

Kingussie vs Lovat – W M Donald MacTavish Cup Final

The first final at the newly renovated Bught Park will see a rematch of the 2024 TH Camanachd Cup final, as Lovat will look to get one over Kingussie to lift their first MacTavish in 12 years. However, Kingussie will be looking to make it four in a row and set themselves on the path for another Grand Slam.

Goals from Greg Matheson and Marc MacLachlan confirmed Lovat’s place in the final, who defeated Caberfeidh and Glen Urquhart to reach this stage. In Badenoch it was Roddy Young who broke the deadlock against Lochaber, before Savio Genini set Kingussie on their way shortly after.

June’s final will be the 18th meeting between these two teams since 2021, with Lovat looking to record their first victory over Kingussie since September of that year. A close game in the 2024 THCC final will remind Kingussie that Lovat are no pushovers, who will surely have to be at the top of their game to become the first team to lift a trophy at the renovated Bught Park.

The final take place on the 14th of June in Inverness at the Bught Park.

Oban Camanachd vs Kyles Athletic – Glasgow Celtic Society Challenge Cup

Meanwhile, Glasgow will host a rematch of the 2024 final to decide South Shinty’s premier team. Kyles will be looking to avenge a defeat in last year’s final and lift their 36th title, however it will be a tough match against a high flying Oban Camanachd side. The 4-5 scoreline in the first match-up between these two sides of the 2025 season will surely excite the neutral, showing the potential for action and drama in the final.

The story of the final could have been a different one, as both teams came from behind to reach the final on Saturday. It was Glasgow Mid Argyll who took the lead in Oban, however a quick response from Ross MacMillan calmed the nerves, before Gregor MacDonald struck late on to send Camanachd through to the final. Kyles left it even later, with Inveraray being 2-0 up in the 85th minute, before Luke Thornton and Innes MacDonald rescued the Tighnabruich side and forced extra time, before James Pringle broke the deadlock in the 113th minute.

The final take place on the 21st of June in Glasgow. The senior final will be preceded by the MacQuiesten Juvenile Cup final, as South shinty’s youth champions will be crowned.
