Mowi Game of the Week - Lochaber vs Kinlochshiel
Mairi Duncan Interview
This week’s Women’s Game of the Week sees us focus in on Spean Bridge, as Lochaber return to league duty after their dramatic Valerie Fraser semi final win to take on a well rested Kinlochshiel side. Ahead of the game we spoke to Lochaber’s Mairi Duncan.
Lochaber are back to league duty with the visit of Kinlochshiel – how are you feeling ahead of the game?
We’re on a high from the weekend and hope we can keep up the momentum, although we’re aware that Kinlochshiel are a tough opposition and any game against them we will have to work hard for.
You booked your place in the VF final in dramatic circumstances at The Dell – how were the nerves during the penalty shoot out?
Nerves were hard to contain. The walk from the team to the penalty spot felt like the longest walk ever! It could have gone either way really.
Lochaber will now look to defend their crown against Badenoch – what was it like lifting the trophy last year?
It was an amazing day all round, with our families and the community out to see us. The girls worked really hard with the run up to the final and they deserved to seeing it pay off.
The last three meetings between Lochaber and Shiel have resulted in a win & draw a-piece – what do you make of them as a team?
They are a tough opposition, with some experienced players coming through. They are fast and put up a fight and have come on as a team over the last few years. It’s great to see women’s shinty growing in these areas.
The women’s international will return this October – as someone who has represented Scotland in the past, how big an honour is it?
It’s an exciting opportunity to be a part of. Forming a team with the girls you’re playing against all season is always a fun prospect. It’s great to be a part of something that represents women in sport.
